Outlook 2016 Attachment Issues (Missing attachments) RRS feed

  • Question

  • We are experiencing an issue in Outlook 2016 (Proplus).
Our Exchange server (2013 RU15) is on prem.

In our case, the attachments are "missing" from the Outlook message, but when viewed through MFCMAPI, I have found that the first attached item is shown as a .xlsx file but is actually the .png image from the signature.

The commenters in the post above have indicated this is a known issue and that there is no fix at this time.  The resolutions seem to be either going back to Office 2013, removing images from signatures, or attaching files to emails through browse or drag and drop.

The forum moderator suggested that I post this here; is there an update to this issue?  An ETA on when this is expected to be addressed?

    Thank you.

  • Hi,

Could you provide more details about the problem you are encountering so that we can fix it more efficiently?

Does this issue happen to all messages with attachments or just certain ones?

How many attachments are included in the email message?

Are the recipients external users or internal users?

In which format were you sending the emails? If you were sending in Rich Text format, please try changing to HTML or Plain Text format and then see if this issue continues.

    >>The resolutions seem to be either going back to Office 2013, removing images from signatures, or attaching files to emails through browse or drag and drop.

How did you originally insert the attachments? Did you insert them via the Recent Items list? If so, please also try clicking the "Browse This PC" button in the Attach File drop-down menu and then see if this issue continues.

    Regards,

    Steve Fan

  • This will be done via the Recent Items list. This is a known bug, which I'm not sure if there's been a resolution yet. Here's a forum post from early 2016 - https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/office/forum/office_2016-outlook/serious-bug-with-outlook-2016s-recent-items/3053293f-2589-4f76-a5e8-f63b836ee54d

For our client, here's what I've seen.

If you attach a PDF document, the document appears to be attached before sending the email, but the recipient doesn't receive the attachment.

If you attach a Word or Excel document, the document appears to be attached before sending the email, but the recipient receives a PNG of the embedded image in the sender's signature, instead of the actual attachment. This PNG has the same name as the attachment.

If I rewrite the signature to link to the image instead of embedding the image, the recent items function works as expected (for now).
