Power Pivot - The option get external data from Other Sources is not working RRS feed

  • Question

  • Power Pivot, the option get external data from other sources is not working. Clicking the "From Other sources" button does nothing. The other options work normally. This button has worked previously, today that started this problem. Can someone help us?

  • I am having exactly the same problem with you since yesterday.  Excel 2016

    Home→Get External Data→From Other Sources

does not show any available data sources like it used to before.  I have already lost a couple of hours trying to solve this issue...  I've tried to fix this issue by both Office program Quick Repair and Online Repair, but the problem still persists.  I'd appreciate it if anyone can help with this issue.

  • Hi,

Did you mean the Table Import Wizard option didn't display in PowerPivot?

Please go to File- Account and provide the detail Office version number as shown in the following picture:

If you're using MSI version Office product, please go to File- Account and click About Excel option and provide the version number as shown in the following picture:

Please provide these information and I will try to test this problem.

I also suggest you try to repair Office application:

  • Same issue and same version as at.iav O365 . Not laptop related as I have 5 laptops with O365 latest build and they are all having the same issue. Found a laptop with an older version and Powerpivot is working just fine there

  • Same issue, started around the same time.

Does anyone have a resolution yet?

By the way it seems to be just Office 365 versions for me as it still works on my other computer with Office Professional 2016 installed.

  • Just installed Office Pro 16 (trial version) and the function doesn't work either.

Could it be linked to some Windows related update?

  • Most likely, when I updated the Office Professional 2016 version i was no longer able to access external data.

  • I am having the exact same problem.  I tried everything (uninstall, reinstall, quick repair/online repair, changed from 64 bit to 32 bit). Have spent over three hours on this.

    Version is 16.0.11231.20164 64-bit.

  • Same problem..so I updated my Windows from 1803 to 1809 and update it but.. same problem

Uninstall office with Microsoft unistaller office tools and reinstall Office 365...update Office 365 same problem.

    Office 365 1901 - 16.0.11231.20130 32 bit or 64 bit no difference!

Clicking the "From Other sources" button does nothing.

Please solve the problem and tell us how to do.

  • MSFT Moderators - I am having the exact same issue.  Up until a week ago I was using without any issues.

In the Power Pivot data model clicking the "From Other Sources" does not appear to invoke any process.  Literally nothing happens on the screen when the button is pressed.

Being an eLearning instructor I need this bug fixed asap.

I'm using MS Excel for Office 365 MSO (16.0.11231.20164) 32-bit

    Happy to provide more information.
