Export particular Public Folder hierarchy to PST RRS feed

  • Question

  • We have a requirement to backup public folders in PST, but not all the public folders in environment needs to be exported, really looking a way out to export only some specific hierarchy. If there is specific outlook filter or cmdlet on PST export request could do so kindly suggest an exact filter that may help ?

  • Complete Data is more than 1 TB.. not very feasible solution to export all at once.

  • Hi Peter,

Thanks for you time , could you indeed suggest me a way to select Random hierarchies from public folders while exporting the same from outlook as you mentioned above ?  am not looking an option to select include sub-folders. Please suggest.

  • Two options

    1. Use the Mailbox Export cmd with Include / Exclude Folders option https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Ee633455%28v=EXCHG.150%29.aspx?f=255&MSPPError=-2147217396

    2. Utilize a 3rd party product that provides a GUI interface to then exclude specific folders and content so that you only export the desired data

Search, Recover, & Extract Mailboxes, Folders, & Email Items from Offline Exchange Mailbox and Public Folder EDB's and Live Exchange Servers or Import/Migrate direct from Offline EDB to Any Production Exchange Server, even cross version i.e. 2003 --> 2007 --> 2010 --> 2013 with Lucid8's DigiScope

  • Hey Aditya,

If you're using Outlook 2010, it is the only option (by using import-export method) to export public folder/subfolder data in pst. However, I am not sure about random hierarchies. You may give a try to software which I listed above. Check the demo version of stellar or any-other tool, and let me know if it works!

Edited: Make sure that folder view is enabled

  • Troy Just one concern, do correct me if i am going wrong.. what if public folder is not mail enabled or a legacy public folder, export cmdlet may not be of much help there i guess ?

  • I dont quite understand your concern/question could you please explain further? Are you saying this is a public folder that is not mounted within your current Exchange environment

  • these are part of our environment however the same are on legacy servers and currently not mail enabled. so my concern was as these public folders are on legacy nor are they mail enabled and do not even sync with any of exchange 2010 server..so exporting out data from cmdlet may not be of much help here .. really looking a way out to export export few selected out of them in PST .. doing this from outlook is a way but unable to get filter to export only specific out of same.
