  • Hi,

Sometimes it takes Excel awhile to calculate and it freezes during the calculation time. This typically happens for me with workbooks that have many (more than >1000) lookups (Match, Vlookup etc), have user defined functions, or macros.

The easy solution is just to be aware and wait it out. That's what I generally do. Otherwise, you might look here: https://trumpexcel.com/suffering-from-slow-excel-spreadsheets/

  • Hi Mosharrof,

Did this problem only appear in a specific file or all files?

Where did you save these file? In local, network or Clound?

I suggest you try to open a blank file in safe mode: Press Win + R, type " excel /safe" in the blank box, press Enter. If it works fine in safe mode, please check the add-ins in your excel and disable them.

You can also try to repair Office application:

You can try to provide more information about this problem and I'm glad to help you.

  • If the workbooks in which it happens are very big, it could be caused by saving the AutoRecovery copy of the workbook. By default, Excel saves such a copy of an open workbook every 10 minutes. While the workbook is being saved, Excel is unresponsive. For small workbooks, this takes only a fraction of a second, so it is hardly noticeable, but for large workbooks it may take some time, especially if your hard disk is slow.
