Vista Activation Error C004F063

    Question

  • I have formatted the hard disk, installed Vista Home Premium and I now have the Vista Activation Error C004F063 message. I do not have the option to talk to a Microsoft representative, only buy a new copy or change the product key. Neither option is a solution

  • Hi,

This error usually occurs if a hardware is changed or any hardware device malfunctions and Windows is unable to verify the license again. Windows is unable to read the SLIC table in the BIOS which is required to be able to self-activate the OEM_SLP Key that is currently in use.  This happens due to one of the following reasons:

1.Service Tag or the Service Number is not updated by the OEM vendor after motherboard replacement.

2.BIOS contains a default or a garbage value for Service Tag.

    3.BIOS has incorrect product information.

I suggest you contact the OEM vendor to update the BIOS that has the updated Serial Number or Service Tag.

You need to change the Product Key to the one on the COA sticker on the machine's case (or inside the battery compartment),  using the Change Product Key link at the bottom of the System properties page.

You may need to activate by phone.

To properly analyse and solve problems with Activation and Validation, we need to see a full copy of the report produced by the MGADiag tool
(download and save to desktop - http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=52012 )
     Once saved, run the tool.
Click on the Continue button, which will produce the report.
To copy the report to your response, click on the Copy button in the tool (ignore any error messages at this point), and then paste (using either r-click/Paste, or Ctrl+V ) into your response.

  • It looks to me as if this machine shipped originally with Windows 8.1 installed  - which may have been downgraded to Win7 for compatibility reasons.

When did you do the upgrade to Windows 10?

How did you do the upgrade? <strike></strike>
