Reinstalling Office 2010

    Question

  • I previously asked a question about this, and it's still not working, unfortunately: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/en-US/officeitpro/thread/2479f74c-ce93-4bc9-b76c-407afaa224a1/

I purchased a new laptop with office 2010 student and home preloaded. I activated Office using a Product Key Card (without a DVD). However, after a week, a problem developed and Office stopped working. Having read these forums, I uninstalled Office.

However, when I attempted to reinstall it, the Click-to-run crashes at Step 3: Installing Prerequisites - 90%. I'm really frustrated by this.

I asked a question about this (see link above) and followed the steps to completely uninstall Office. This still didn't work.

I then tried to phone the Microsoft helpline however, since I've uninstalled it, I don't have a product Id.

Could you please answer these questions:

    1. How do I phone the Microsoft helpline without a Product ID AND without paying a fortune on charges?

    2. Is there any way to find the product ID once Office has been uninstalled, as outlined above?

    3. Why does it keep crashing at the same point? (Step 3 - 90% prerequisites) Do I need to purchase a back-up disk and install it from there?

Thanks in advance for your help with this.

Product key card installs should not be using the Click-to-run install.

Uninstall whatever Office product you now have, reboot the computer and download the install media for your product from:  http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/using-the-product -key-card-FX101853163.aspx by clicking on the Download button.

If you have issues uninstalling the previous install see: http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/buy/using-the-product -key-card-FX101853163.aspx and click the Fix-it button for the version of Office you have.
