Corrupt PowerPoint File

    Question

  • My wife created a very extensive PowerPoint presentation. She presented it, and then decided to bring it home to save (it was very good). Sadly, she MOVED it to a key drive instead of copy. This means no backup copy. When she got the drive home PowerPoint would not recognize the file. Said it was wrong type (it IS a .ppt) or corrupt.

I have all current updates in Office (SP2 and later). I am running Win XP Pro SP2, Office 2003 SP2. Is there anything that will recover a corrupt PP file?

    Any ideas gratefully accepted.

  • Hey!

You can implement "Reuse" feature of MS PowerPoint to repair .ppt file. This feature is inbuilt in PowerPoint 2007/2010. You can also try opening corrupt .ppt file in MS Word application to extract the data or insert the slides in a blank presentation.

Reuse feature is the most effective solution among all these and you can read the steps from: http://social.technet.microsoft.com/Forums/office/en-US/b75ad01e-c264-4b40-8dca-15ed82f2f9a1/how-can-i-repair-powerpoint-presentation?forum=officeitpro

  • PowerPoint 2003 or earlier

    1. Open a new blank presentation.
    2. On the Insert menu, click Slides from Files.
    3. In the Slide Finder dialog box, browse to your original PowerPoint file.
    4. Select the Keep source formatting check box.
    5. Click Insert All.
    6. Save your presentation and republish.

If the method above does not work to repair the file corruption, please also try the following:

    1. Open the PowerPoint file in question and go to File > Save As and select type Web Page (.htm, .html). Save in the same location as your file.
    2. Quit PowerPoint.
    3. Open the html file in PowerPoint.
    4. Again, go to File > Save As and select file type Presentation (.ppt). When prompted, click Yes to overwriting your previous file.
    5. Republish.

  • Microsoft PowerPoint provides an inbuilt feature such as “Open and Repair” which fixes minor problems with PowerPoint file. The procedure to use this feature is given below:<o:p></o:p>

Run Microsoft PowerPoint application -> Go to “File” then “Open” option -> Select the corrupt / damaged PPT file -> And now, instead of clicking on “Open” button, press on the drop down list next to the button and select “Open and Repair “option to fix your PowerPoint file.<o:p></o:p>
