Cloud Hybrid Search and Outbound Hybrid RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi Team,

As per my understanding, Cloud Hybrid Search will display the results from both SP Online and On-premise in SPO search center. However, if an on-premise user wants search results from SPO sites in On-premise search center:

    1. Do we need to configure One-Way Outbound Hybrid search?

    2. Whether we need to execute power shell scripts for both configurations?

    Regards,

    Sarath

  • Thanks Jerry!

Whether Cloud SSA is still in preview stage? Can we use it for production deployments?

Do you have any articles which gives the advantages of Cloud Hybrid Search over One-way inbound search Or can't we say Cloud Hybrid Search is not an alternative to One-way inbound search?

    Regards, Sarath

  • Hi scks,

Cloud Search Service Application has come up with SharePoint 2016 and it can be used in production environment.

About the advantages of Cloud Hybrid search, I think it will save the application server cost when doing cloud search.

  • Simple approach to do this is by creating a Remote SharePoint Result Source pointing to your office 365 tenant on your Cloud Hybrid Search farm or at the Search Center site collection.  You can then further limit the results using various managed properties at the result source level or within the search results web part using KQL.

Here's an article I've written on how to achieve this:

  • Hi Jerry,

How about Cloud Hybrid Search in SharePoint 2013 production deployments?

Do we need to remove the existing Search Service Application to configure Cloud Hybrid Search or can that be done by updating the content sources for respective SSA?

    Regards, Sarath

  • Hi scks,

We need to remove the existing search service application and create cloud search service application using PowerShell.

  • Theoretically, you could create a new Cloud SSA side-by-side and swap them when ready to cut-over by switching them out via service application proxy.
