Save Unicode CSV data results in Unicode text RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

When I change my csv field value using Excel 2010, I find a curious issue.

    My scenario is below:

    1. There is a file(data.csv) with CSV(Comma Separated Value) data format, which encoding is UTF-8.

    2. Open data.csv by W-click, and Excel has been launched.

    3. The data in data.csv has been correctly parsed as CSV and displayed in Excel.

    4. Edit fields.

    5. Press Ctrl + S to save data.

After step 5, the data in data.csv is in TSV(Tab separated value) format.

This means that Excel change file format without any notification, and may cause problems when the data will be used for other systems.

I only found that Excel saves data.csv as Unicode Text because its encoding is UTF-8, but no idea how to make it saved as CSV as original.

Is there any way to solve this issue?

    Regards,
