  • Hi Sudhir Muvva,

Through your question, I guess you are very new to SharePoint 2010, and your responsibility is to create new sites for departments. The following steps basically you could do:

    1. Login to site collection using site collection administrator.
    2. Click Site Actions > New Site.
    3. Select Team Site, and then click More Options.
    4. Complete all of information of your department site.

These steps guide you on how to create new sites under a site collection. You should first plan sites and site collections. Check this post out: Plan sites and site collections.

You should read the book "Beginning SharePoint 2010 Administration" and then "SharePoint 2010 Unleashed". There are a lot of books covering SharePoint Administration as well.

  • Hi Sudhir,

First save as template of the department site, base upon the department template you can create the other sites.

      Steps for creating the template

    •    Click Site Action
    •    Site Settings
    •    Save site as Template on "Site Actions" section

give the File Name, Template name(department), description and select the check box of Include content if content required then click on ok. It will Create, save and activate that template automatically.

Steps for Creating the site based upon the New template

    •    Click Site Action
    •    New Site
    •    Select the template("department") and enter the Title and URL of the new site then click create. it will create the site based upon the department site template, repeat same step to create more sites.
