Remove Custom Field Type from the SharePoint List RRS feed

  • Dear All,

    One of my colleagues has developed a Custom Field Type which is appearing in all the lists. I looked on so many things and options but unable to find out the correct way Can you please tell me How to remove Custom Field Types from SharePoint ?

  • Custom field types are a little complicated.

    To undeploy it, you would basically follow these steps:
    1. Remove the associated DLL (assembly) from the GAC.
    2. Remove the control template from here: c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\controltemplates
    3. Remove the CAML defintion from here: c:\program files\common files\microsoft shared\web server extensions\12\XML

    I believe that if you only do #3, you will leave the existing fields intact but prevent them from being used again new anywhere.
