Exchange 2013 - DR site RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi all,

I want to setup a new exchange 2013 environment with DR site.
    Main Site (2DC+2CAS+2MBX) DR Site (1DC+1CAS+1MBX) = 2dbcopy in mainsite & 1dbcopy in DRsite

Till now i haven't configured DR mode for my client (many techsite says that single namespace can be maintain in Exchange 2013 for multisite configuration)

My question is whether same namespace can be maintained for both site in Exchange 2013 or I need to configure different namespace as we did for Exchange 2010 multisite with DAC mode.

If I configure same namespace in both site (will DAC mode works if my mainsite fails)

What are the records & URL need to configured in my Exchange 2013 DR site.

    Anyone please help me !!!

  • Single namespace is linked to CAS functionality & in Exchange 2013 it will be a good idea to use Single namespace because Exchange 2013 CAS roles identifies which site contains the active mailbox and would redirect or proxy client connection accordingly.

DAC (Datacenter Activation Coordination) is to do with database DAG Infrastructure that is scaled between two or more physical sites. DAG name will always be common between physical sites and DAC is just a property of DAG that need to configured to treat start-up behavior of DAG databases.

Hope this would have clarified doubts.

  • Hi Andy,
I am using Windows NLB for main site. Dr site I have completed installation but waiting for configure & test.
If I use same namespace in my mainsite & DR site as a "webmail.xxxx.com" will my DAC works without any issue in my DR site after my mainsite got down.

Yes. DAC Mode is not related to the CAS namespace.

What load balancing method are you using for client connectivity?

I would use a single name space and then change DNS if necessary so what FQDN clients connect to now, points to the DR CAS if you need to switchover to the DR DC.
