  • Question

  • Hello, we have exchange 2013 after hard recovery from backup vhd couple month ago old. Backup is damagen and we has recover  probably only pst with public folders. And there is problem. One public folder has been created few week ago. We wos recreate this folder (mail enabled) new but we can not add mail address becouse exchange server (probably in active directory)  has usage. How to clean or add this important address to public folder?

    There is error message:
    "-domain-"/Microsoft Exchange System Objects/"-alias-" 10744667
The proxy address "smtp:-mail address-" is already being used by "-domain-"/Microsoft Exchange System Objects/"-alias-" . Please choose another proxy address.

  • Hi,

You can use the following command to check which public folder is using this smtp address:

    Get-MailPublicFolder <email address> | fl displayname,EmailAddresses

Use these commands to add, remove or modify the email addresses:

    Set-MailPublicFolder -Identity <email address> -EmailAddresses @{add="abc@contoso.com"} Set-MailPublicFolder -Identity <email address> -EmailAddresses @{remove="abc@contoso.com"} Set-MailPublicFolder -Identity <email address> -EmailAddresses "SMTP:xyz@contoso.com","abc@contoso.com"

Pay attention that if the email address you want to modify is a primary SMTP address, you have to use the following command to disable the email address policy firstly:

    Set-MailPublicFolder -Identity <email adddress> -EmailAddressPolicyEnabled $false

Or you could change the alias, the primary email address will be automatically updated only in environments where the recipient is subject to email address policies.

  • Hi,

Based on my knowledge, the root public folder cannot be mail enabled, so no root public folder address can be modified.

You can use the following command to check where the missing message is blocked:

    Get-MessageTrackingLog -MessageSubject <subject> -Sender <sender address>|select timestamp,EventID,Source,ConnectorID

To know more about Event type, please check:Event types in the message tracking log
