How to find original senders IP address in outlook 2010

  • Hi all,

    I am having trouble finding the original IP address of an email send from and ebay scammer wanting me to send an iphone4 to nigeria.........

    Can anyone help? They are probably hid by a VPN but you never know. All i can see in the emails headers are

    Received: from mail pickup service by XXXXXXXXX with Microsoft SMTPSVC;

    in previous versions im sure this would have given me the IP address of the sender?

    Any help or advice would be very much appreciated.

    Kind Regards,

  • In outlook 2010 finding an IP address is easy, just follow these steps;

    1. Open the email message

    2. On the upper left side click on FILE

    3. Click on PROPERTIES

    4. In the window scroll down to the IP.

    See, that was easy!

  • I have a better solution.
    In Outlook, or (webmail) right click on the spam email and select VIEW MESSAGE SOURCE.
    This will show you the source file of the email.  It contains all pertinent transmission information.

    To find the IP address within this source do a search using CTRL-F and type the following

    Afterward copy this IP then paste it in your block senders list.
