Access Sharepoint List Programmatically RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello
How do I access a particular sharepoint list of library (for example 'Shared Documents') from sharepoint database using sql query or using web services and create definition file for BDC?

What is the best way to do this?

  • BDC is for external LOB systems and not for SharePoint Lists. However you can try using the SharePoint List Web Service found in http://server/_vti_bin/Lists.asmx? Ideally you should use a DataView web part for showing List Data.

So I want to fetch some list information from server 1 to server 2 without asking login to user. That is what I was thinking on BDC. I can try dataview web part but I dont know the MOSS Database scheme and tables information that what table I should use for displaying a particular task list and its information.

  •  There's nothing stopping you from using BDC for this, though you will need to a good bit of configuration.

What are your business requirements?  If you can describe the business process, it will be easier to give good advice.

Also, a data view web part can use a web service as a data source.  Here's an example:
