Accessing details of remote SharePoint site RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have two SharePoint sites running
    1.  One on machine1 as: http://machine1/default.aspx.
    2.  Another on machine2 as: http://machine2/default.aspx
I am writing an ASPX page that uses C# code and Microsoft.SharePoint API such as SPSite, etc. This page will be hosted on the IIS server at machine2. But this will fetch details from http://machine1/default.aspx. Can this be done?

Answers

  • It depends. I do not have concrete answer. Some of them may be available using web services out of the box. Here is the documentation for those, Find out for yourself

  • It cannot be done directly from API. You will have to use sharepoint web services.

  • Are there such webservices already exposed in SharePoint or do I have to write the webservices myself and host it on machine1?

The details I want to fetch from machine1 are:

    1. The SharePoint sites running on machine1
    2. The list of users in each sharepoint site on machine1
    3. The list of resources (i.e. all the Paths, e.g. /Documents, /Links, etc.)
    4. The permissions that the users have over this resources.
