Topology Merge - Affects on OCS RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi - Hopefully a straightforward question, but one I'm finding hard to find a definitive answer to - I'm working on a migration from OCS 2007 R2 to Lync 2013, and are coming to the point of merging topologies. The customer is concerned that performing this should not make any changes back into the OCS deployment. I believe this *is* the case, but what I am not clear about is how, under the inter-operation mode between OCS and Lync do requests relating to users migrated to Lync received by OCS get correctly redirected? Is this purely reliant on looking up the backendserver attribute on the user, or is OCS made aware of Lync infrastructure during the topology merge?

Hoping someone can offer some clarity around this :-)

  • Yes, the OCS is able to see the Lync infrastructure and the OCS clients can work together with the Lync clients.

If you don't change anything on the OCS infrastructure all things are working as before for the OCS users.

  • Holger, thanks for your reply. The concern here is purely around change management and whether or not performing the topology merge is making changes to a live production system (the existing OCS platform.) It's hard to find out for certain whether or not this is the case.

  • Hi JamieSayer,

Welcome to post in our forum.

Based on my understanding, there won’t be impact any existing user when merge topology, it means merge topologies does not affect OCS R2 users functionality.

The following blog is about how to merger topology, please refer to

    Hope this helpful to you.
