MOSS can't establish a connection to SQL Server or access denied RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello plp!,

I'm experiencing connection problems to our DB on SQL Server 2005. There are tons of events 5586, 3355 and 27745 since 2 days ago. This situation was reported to DB Administrators 2 weeks ago but this weekend it has been un-manageable.

Users of our Intranet reports hanging on our Intranet and the strange thing is when event viewer shows connection problems to DB, some users could access to the Intranet home page from that server that is showing the problem. In addition, the event viewer log shows unable to connect to DB SQL Server in one server and in the other server there is no event at the same time. We have 2 Web Front End in load balancing structure.

DB Administrators told us that everything is alright with servers, and logs says that both WFE servers are establishing connection with database server.

Lastly, I hope to get some feedback from you to help resolve the problem.

These are examples of 3 event ID log errors:

    EVENT ID: 27745

he description for Event ID ( 27745 ) in Source ( Windows SharePoint Services 3 ) cannot be found. The local computer may not have the necessary registry information or message DLL files to display messages from a remote computer. You may be able to use the /AUXSOURCE= flag to retrieve this description; see Help and Support for details.

  • Hi,

i faced same error and i had a lot of times to check this error with a lot of troubleshooting at last i found that i have this problem with the SPN of the SQL server , i posted the solution http://go4zero.wordpress.com/2010/11/10/event-id-27745/

you can let the DB administrators check this and your domain admin to register the SPN.

  • Hi,

you can check the below link under section "Manual SPN Registration"

    http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms191153.aspx

you can use -A switch to add new SPN , and if you want to delete it you can use -D switch

for the account mentioned , use domain admin account as mentioned

"The domain administrator must register the SPN manually".

  • Hi Mina,

DB Admins found two of three errors: Error: 17806 and Error: 18452.

Following your notes to resolve the problem we should to set SPN for the SQL Server, but I don't realize which accountname should be on these sentences:

    setspn -A MSSQLSvc/FQDN:1433 accountname

    setspn -A MSSQLSvc/FQDN accountname

In addition, we have facing these errors on SQL logs:

02/14/2011 07:52:00,Logon,Unknown,Login failed for user 'NT AUTHORITY\ANONYMOUS LOGON'. [CLIENT: 10.150.62.156]

    02/14/2011 07:52:00,Logon,Unknown,Error: 18456<c/> Severity: 14<c/> State: 11.

    Thank you in advance

  • Hi,

We're wondering if it's accurate tu use the account which starts SQL Service or a SharePoint Service account.

On the other hand, we must be safe that setting SPN don't go to get worse the issue and If it's possible to do a roll back if it's neccesary. If you can, please give some feedback about this.

    Thanks a lot.
