Office 2013 and Type 1 Fonts not supported RRS feed

  • Question

  • we have a large number of documents that are still using Type 1 fonts.  Since support for Type 1 fonts is discontinued, the old documents aren’t displaying properly in Office 2013.  Is there a workaround or patch that would at least allow these documents to
    display properly?

  • Hi,

As you said, Type 1 font has been removed of Office 2013. We may try the workaround of this thread:

    ======

Type 1 Fonts will work with Word 2013! It took quite a while to figure out how.

Install them simply by double-clicking on the .pfb file.

Then on to the secret method:

In your word document, highlight the text you want in the Type 1 Font and select the font as you would in Word 2007. (The text will change to some weird font, but don't worry.)

While the text is still selected (highlighted), press the pull-down arrow at the right of "font":

    Select "Text Effects":

    Select "Text Outline":

    Select "Solid Line":

Select the color you want for the text as Blue is the default.

Then "OK" back to your document.

The text updates only after you return to your document.

That is a bit awkward, but it works.

I am now able to use my favorite fonts Black Chancery and RS Miami Nights again!

It's recommended to download and install Configuration Analyzer Tool (OffCAT), which is developed by Microsoft Support teams. Once the tool is installed, you can run it at any time to scan for hundreds of known issues in Office programs.

  • These directions make no sense whatever.  Probably just obsolete.

NONE of the menu items, etc. in the "advice" appear in either Windows 10 or in Word 2016.

Ever think of removing ancient out-of-date stuff.  Evidently not.

Meanwhile, Microsoft Office 2016 has rendered operable (in Word) my 150 paid-for Postscript Fonts.

    Thanks arrogant corporate thieves.
