Rule to Change the SCL Score for Quarantine RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have some mail flow rules setup to help reduce spam. My SCL Rules are setup as follows:

    SCLJunkThreshold 3

    -SCLQuarantineThreshold 6

If I setup a rule to change the SCL of a message to 5, the message correctly redirects to the user's junk folder. However, if I setup a rule to change the SCL to 8, the message still goes to Junk instead of being redirected to the quarantine mailbox. Is there something I'm missing?

  • Hi Technobeam,

You need to enable antispam features in the Transport service on a Mailbox server, then configure a spam quarantine mailbox. Details see:

    Configure a spam quarantine mailbox

Step 1: Verify content filtering is enabled
Step 2: Create a dedicated mailbox for spam quarantine
Step 3: Specify the spam quarantine mailbox
Step 4: Configure the SCL quarantine threshold
Step 5: Manage the spam quarantine mailbox
Step 6: Adjust the SCL quarantine threshold

    Best Regards,

  • I have the spam quarantine box configured and spam goes into it correctly based on the SCL score. The problem I'm having is that if I create a transport rule to midify the SCL score based on some other criteria so a message is redirected to quarantine, it is not working.

  • Hi Techonbeam,

Please run the following command to check SCL threshold settings on server side:

    Get-ContentFilterConfig | fl SCL*

Moreover, please also check the SCL setting on single mailbox which the transport rule applies to:

    Get-Mailbox UserName |fl SCL*
Make sure both SCL settings are correct.

    Best Regards,

  • Hi Technobeam,

The SCL setting seems like correctly.

How many mail flow rules do you create to change the SCL of messages?

Could you show us the detailed rule settings ?

    Best Regards,
