Outlook 2010 xlsm attachment not being received RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have several users with Outlook 2010 on Windows 7 32 bit machines. They receive reports, etc in excel spreadsheets from other users everyday. They can receive most attachments fine, but any attachment with a xlsm attachemnt is deleted before they recieve it. I can see the message come through our mail server and disappear as it is downloaded to their computer, but it never shows up in thier mail box. Our mail server is not an exchange server.

    Any help is appreciated.

  • Hi,

    Sorry for delay.

Can these user receive and download the attachment via Outlook Web Access (OWA)?

If not, please contact Mail server administrator, the attachment probably blocked by policy.

If yes, please try to add additional attachment file name extensions types(.xlsm) that you want tot to open, follow these steps, and then quit Registry Editor:

    1. Click Start, In the Start Search box, type regedit, and then press ENTER:
    2. Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
      HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office\14.0\Outlook\Security
    3. On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click String Value.
    4. Type Level1Remove, and then press ENTER.
    5. On the Edit menu, click Modify.
    6. Type .xlsm , and then click OK.

Note  Each attachment file name extension is separated by a semicolon. For example, type .zip; .gif if you want to open both .zip and .gif files from appearing in the e-mail message as an attachment.

  • THe modification to the registry did not help.  The user is running windows 10 with outlook 2010.  outlook is set up as a pop client, against GODADDY mail server.  If XLSM file is sent as an attachment to the user and they look at there mail with a web browser the attachment is there.  As soon as they open outlook the email message is deleted.

Windows defender is the only virus app. I have tried completely disabling it, as well as adding in .xlsm to the exclude

    HELP PLEASE
