  • When an external contact sends a mail to shared mail box, sender receives the below NDR

    Your message couldn't be delivered because delivery to this group is restricted to authenticated senders. If the problem continues, please contact your email admin

    HOW EVER THE RECIPIENT GETS THE MAIL IN HIS INBOX

    Sender is annoyed of the NDRs

    Settings like "Required authentication" was uncheck from day 1

  • Hi,

    What's the shared mailbox type? Shared mailbox or distribution group mailbox?

    If it’s distribution group mailbox, check its delivery management.

    Run Set-DistributionGroup cmdlet to modify the setting via EMS.

    Set-DistributionGroup <mailboxname> -RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled $false

    You could create the Mail Contact  for the external mailbox on ECP. For that you need Display Name, Alias and Email Address.

  • Hi,

    How many external senders encounter this issue? All or the specific one?

    1.Please edit the shared mailbox , disable the Forwarding to the Distribution group mailbox temporarily, check the result.

    2.If the external sender is an Exchange type mailbox, or it log on the Outlook client. As workaround, you could advise the sender to create a transport/Inbox rule to filter the NDR.

  • Hi Rahul,

    To find all distribution groups in your environment that require authentication, run:

    Get-DistributionGroup | ?{$_.RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled -eq $true}

    If you'd like to modify them to all accept email from external senders, then run:

    Get-DistributionGroup | ?{$_.RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled -eq $true} | Set-DistributionGroup -RequireSenderAuthenticationEnabled $false}

    Regards,

  • The situation now is any email sent from external domain (includes gmail,yahoo & any domain) to the shared mailbox is receiving the NDR

    Remote Server returned '554 5.7.0 < #5.7.133 smtp;550 5.7.133 RESOLVER.RST.SenderNotAuthenticatedForGroup; authentication required; Delivery restriction check failed because the sender was not authenticated when sending to this group>'

  • Hi,

    Have you tried the commands above? If not, please try it.

    You could create a new shared mailbox, then add the distribution groups one by one and let the external sender sends messages to the shared mailbox, to narrow down the issue scope.
