Acceptable Network Latency for SharePoint 2013 configuration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello Team,

We are currently facing performance issues on the SharePoint 2013 Production farm which was recently built up with the following farm topology. Checked the VM servers configurations which looked good. Checked the performance log report generated from Vcenter which also looks good. But noticed the max Network latency between the servers more than 30ms. For DB, it was around 42ms. Currently the page load time for the home page of a OOB site is around 1 minute.

Could you please let me know what should be the Network latency as per Microsoft recommendation. Is it from server to server across the farm or only from WFE/APP/DCS/SS/OWA servers to DB servers. Please let me know.

    WFE - 4 servers

    APP servers - 4 servers

    DCS - 2 servers

    Search - 4 servers

    OWA - 2 servers

    DB Nodes - 2 servers

  • <1ms one way between any component for 99.9% measured over 10 minutes. At first glance you're outside the required spec but maximum values are a bit risky as it might be a single high value whilst normal performance is acceptable.

There is a highly consistent intra-farm latency of <1ms (one way), 99.9% of the time over a period of ten minutes. (Intra-farm latency is commonly defined as the latency between the front-end web servers and the database servers.)
