Document not opening in application from DispForm.aspx RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

i have a problem with opening office-documents (Chrome, IE, Edge).

    WORKING:

Clicking a link from a listview the documents opens just fine in an application (word or excel).

    Code of link:

    <a class="ms-listlink ms-draggable" href="/customer/projects/implementation/k1650/planning/02_Pflichtenhefte/01_Aktuell/PH_1650-FU_V0_02.docm" onmousedown="return VerifyHref(this,event,'0','SharePoint.OpenDocuments','')" onclick="return DispEx(this,event,'TRUE','FALSE','FALSE','SharePoint.OpenDocuments.3','0','SharePoint.OpenDocuments','','','','2233','1','0','0x7fffffffffffffff')" aria-label="PH_1650-FU_V0_02, Word document" dragid="3" draggable="true">PH_1650-FU_V0_02</a>

    NOT WORKING

But if i click the link from a DisplayForm.aspx of a document-library, the browser is always downloading the file and loses therefore the connection to the SharePoint (saves only local on PC).

    E.g. of URL:

    ..../Forms/DispForm.aspx?ID=92&RootFolder=%2Fcustomer%2Fprojects%2Fimplementation%2Fk1650%2Fplanning%2F02_Pflichtenhefte%2F01_Aktuell&Source=https%3A%2F%2Fksi-intranet%2Eknapp%2Ecom%2Fcustomer%2Fprojects%2Fimplementation%2Fk1650%2Fdefault%2Easpx

    Display-form of a document-library:

    Code of link:

    <a rel="sp_DialogLinkNavigate" href="/customer/projects/implementation/k1650/projectmanagement/07_AbnahmeZertifikate/Abnahme/k1650_Abnahmeprotokoll_de.docx" onmousedown="return VerifyHref(this, event, '0', 'SharePoint.OpenDocuments.3', '')" onclick="DispDocItemExWithServerRedirect(this, event, 'FALSE', 'FALSE', 'FALSE', 'SharePoint.OpenDocuments.3', '0', ''); return false;">k1650_Abnahmeprotokoll_de.docx</a>

Any workarounds or solution to this problem?

  • You can try these settings

Set the default open behavior for a document library by using the document library settings page

    1. On the document library page, choose the Library tab.

    2. In the Settings group, choose Library Settings.

    3. On the Document Library Settings page, choose Advanced settings.

    4. On the Advanced Settings page, in Opening Document in the Browser, select one of the following options:

      • Open in the client application   When a user chooses a document in this library, the document will open in the corresponding client application if it's available.

      • Open in the browser   When a user chooses a document in this library, the document will open in the web browser in the web app for that document type. When the document is opened in the web app, the user can then decide to open the document in the client application.

      • Use the server default   When a user chooses a document in this library, the document will open by using the default open behavior specified for the server running SharePoint 2013.

  • Hi Thomas,

Please follow the steps below to narrow down your issue:

    1. Go to Library Setting > Advanced Settings > Default open behavior for browser-enabled documents and select “Open in the client application”.

    2. Make sure you have set Word the default application for .docx files locally.

    3. Create a new document library and see if the same issue occurs.

    4. Reset IE and see if the issue remains. Internet Options > Advanced > Reset.

    5. Perform an IISReset and see if it works.

    Best regards

  • 1.) Already set to client app.

2.) Default app already set for .docx

    3.) Already tried.

    4.) Already tried.

    5.) Already tried.

I don't think it is a setting problem. The document will open correctly in the client app from every location (listview, link,...) but not from a display-form of an document-library-item.

As i mentioned above, the links are not identical (different funtion calls).

  • Hi Thomas,

I would like to confirm a few things with you:

    1. Does this happen on a particular file type (e.g. .docx) or all types?

    2. Please check if there is any custom code in the display form.

    Best regards,

    Chelsea Wu

  • All Office-related document types (word, excel, PP) and there is no custom code on the display form (default display form of a doc-library).

  • Hi Thomas,

Does this happen to all user accounts or just this one user account?

    Best regards,

    Chelsea Wu
