External content type associations RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I moved one table named 'Sectors' from sharepoint to SQL Server and created an external content type and external list to be able to access this table from sharepoint.

The table, however, has a self-relation, each sector can be related to another sector.

I'm able to create the association using sharepoint designer and the relationship works, I get the option to choose the related sector when adding or editing a sector.

However, the information displayed about the related sector is only the Id of the sector. I couldn't find a way to display the Title field, which contains the name of the sector.

Is there a solution that allows me to show the title of the related sector?

    Thank you in advance!

  • Hey

Do you mean to set up a lookup field?

In the setting page, you can set gather info from title field but not ID.

  • Yes, something like a lookup field... on an external content type. Is there a settings page for the external content type?

I can't even see it on the list of content types.

  • I doesn't have a external list currently.

Can you try to add a lookup field in the external list?

I am not sure whether columns can be edited or created in external list.

  • Hi,

How about creating two external content types and add associations between them?

  • Hi, Dean,

That's what I did, almost worked.

However, instead of bringing the title of the related item, it brings the id of the related item.

Have I made something wrong with the association?
