OneNote 2013 - Cannot paste images

Question
-
Hello! I have a issue with copying\pasting images in OneNote.
Example: I have an image on OneNote page. Then i copy or cut image to clipboard. When i try to paste image to any OneNote page, only blank space inserts instead of copied image.
When i try to paste the same copied image from onenote to paint or word, for example, it works nice.
Copying\pasting from word\paint to onenote works nice. Text copied as expected.
Only copying from OneNote to the same OneNote app fails regardless of OneNote page\notebook..
OneNote 2013 (15.0.4535.1507) 32bit.

Please try these steps:
1. Copy several words and paste it to OneNote. Select Keep Source Formatting (K).
2. Click the Paste Options icon again and click Set as Default Paste.
3. Try copy/paste an image again.
Please let me know the result.

Hi,
Please first test this issue on OneNote web app and check if the issue persists.
How did you paste the image? Did you use Ctrl + V? Please also try to right-click on OneNote page and select 'Keep Source Formatting' and 'Picture' from Paste Options:
Please let me know the result.

Hi Steve! Of course, i've tried both key shortcuts and right-click.
And here we are, where problem arises: i don't have any paste options except from just "Paste" when copy image from onenote TO onenote!

Appologize for the mistake in my last reply. Based on my test, Paste(P) is the default and only Paste Options when we copy/paste image from one OneNote page to another.
Please try to use OneNote /safeboot to clear your local OneNote cache to check the result. To do this, press Windows key + R, type OneNote /safeboot in the Run command and press Enter.
Please first try Delete Notebook Cache.
Note: When we delete the Notebook cache, you’ll lose your unsynced changes and you’ll have to reopen the notebooks. So please make sure all your changes have been saved before you start OneNote with safeboot.
If above not fix the problem, please try Delete Settings.
Note: Use Delete Settings will have your OneNote to use default settings, but you can change them later.
Please let me know the result.
Regards,
Steve Fan

Thank you, Steve, i didn't know about useful boot options!
Unfortunately, neither cache cleaning nor delete settings doesn't help.
Also, you've posted that "only Paste Options when we copy/paste image from one OneNote page to another."
But in my case, even when i paste from one page to another, only one Paste option appears, strange bug..
I definitely have no thoughts about causes of this trouble..

Thanks, Steve, that works! So, the reason in "default" paste option, cause its works for images too, and can't "Paste (IMAGE) as text"?Saturday, February 22, 2014 3:51 PM

The 'Keep Text Only' option removes all the original formatting from the text. If the text you paste contains images, the images will not show up.
We can paste text as image using the 'Picture (U)' paste option, but we can't paste image as text.
Seems your default paste option is set to 'Keep text only', that's why this issue happens.

This process did not work for me. I set the first icon as default, but the paste gives me a "missing image" icon for a split second before giving nothing. What does work is using the specific "paste image" command, but that's not very friendly when trying to paste a portion of a web page that has text and images. The best I can get there is just the text.Monday, December 15, 2014 5:10 PM

This is exactly what I was seeing as well. I used to copy/paste a webpage into OneNote, this worked a couple weeks ago, but has recently stopped. even copying parts of the same page no longer pastes the images!
I tried resetting the cache and then the settings as per above, to no avail.
Something else - when this happens the paste always starts with OneNote inserting "-->" on a line above the pasted area.

I'm using OneNote 2013 on Windows 7. I have tried everything including uninstalling it and re-installing OneNote. When I paste an image I get a box with a red x in upper left corner.
I have spent more than 20 hours trying to get OneNote 2013 to allow me to paste an image and have not been able to.
Please, please help.

As a follow up to my comment immediately above. I can paste an image into Microsoft Word. (Can't in OneNote.)

hi, i was facing the same problem. i dont know if this qualifies as a solution, its more of a hack (of the most rudimentary form). those images which cant be pasted on the destination require an additional step. what i did was, i copied the image (i.e. Ctr+C) and thereitself (in the source itself) pasted the image (Ctr+V). after this, weirdly somehow, Onenote recognizes it as an object thence, and now if you select the pane of the object (the one that appears if you hover your mouse over the object) and copy it, at the destination you will get the desired options- including the option of pasting the image. :D (sigh!)Monday, August 3, 2015 12:46 PM

2. Click the Paste Options icon again and click Set as Default Paste....Hi Steve,
Thanks for the solution - but first it did not work for me, because your screenshot does not show exactly what you mean ("pictures say more than words"). Please replace your screenshot with something like this:I am sorry, that my screenshot is in German.
Best regards,

Is there a way to do this in Windows 8.1 with OneNote 2013? When I right click I only get a menu at the bottom of the screen and no obvious way to change any settings/preferences whatsoever...Friday, October 14, 2016 6:46 PM

Is there a way to set this setting via an API or some admin console?

After following Steve's instructions (Feb 22, 1:58pm), I can do the copy/paste from this page to OneNote and images will be included. But when I try to copy/paste from Yahoo Mail emails to OneNote, the images still do not come over.
The work-around is to copy the text, then copy an image and Paste and set Paste Option to Image Only, and then reconstruct the email. very clunky though.

What worked for me after I’ve tried all instructions and recommendations without success was to reset all zones to default level in Internet Options. In my case some websites with hyperlinks from others sources didn’t show the images, however if the images were in the same domain they’re displayed properly. Let me know if the solution was relevant.

You mean Control Panel/Internet Options/Security tab, in Windows 7. Clarifying because I had to search all over to find such a setting.Sunday, September 10, 2017 1:45 AM

Thanks!
I have been suffering this for weeks.
Now I have resolved this with your post. This is a OneNote bug!

Hi,
Paste the content in Word and then copy the same from Word and paste it in One Note.
Worked for me :-)

Hi,
After long trying, today I realize OneNote is working as expected.
Suggestion: After following the instructions of "Steve Fan", try to paste the image in a blank part of your OneNote document. Do not try to paste it into a section where it's text inside. After doing this, it worked for me :)

Thanks Steve! That helped me out a lot.
What a 'different' kind of software OneNote is compared with other office programs right. At the same time it has amazing functions as whel as weird and unneccasary flaws. I.e. designed as a application to wright ánd draw it has the least amount of standard shapes in the whole office family. And also this quirk is a very typical one.
