How to set Preview Text so it Shows Email Text Rather than Link RRS feed

  • Question

  • I'm developing an automated business process that uses email to assign tasks.  Users reply 'Done' when they complete task and the next task in process is assigned automatically.  The first thing in HTML email is a logo.

    <img alt="Company Logo" src="http://Company.com/image/gps.jpg" width="366"></div>

So  'http://Company.com/image/gps.jpg' shows up as Preview Text in Outlook 365 Desktop.  On the phone it doesn't show link but shows first line of text in mail.  I've tried about 30 different things to get it to show first line of text rather than link without success.  I want to fix this in HTML.  This involves 100's people I can't ask them to change Outlook setting.

  • Hi mogulman52,

Do you mean to change the ScreenTip for Hyperlink?

As far as I know, this is by design that the Screentips won't show up in Outlook client to avoid the link obfuscation attacks. For example, if the ScreenTips feature is available for Outlook email, when someone inserted a URL which can lead to phishing sites or sites for this hyperlink, but when you hover the image, the display is just a safe text, you may be attacked by it.

Please understanding the safety consideration for the Outlook emails. If you have more concerns about this feature, we can submit a feedback in Outlook Suggestion Box:

  • I didn't explain clearly.  I think an image will help. As you can see in Outlook on the desktop you see image link.

However, if you look at Outlook online or Outlook on phone it doesn't show link.  It shows first lines of email like I expect.  This is similar email generated by system.

I'm trying to figure out how to create HTML so email preview on desktop Outlook looks like Outlook online/phone.

I've tried dozens of experiments with no success.

  • Hi,

From your description, this is more related with HTML code. As here we mainly focus on issues regarding Outlook desktop client, I'd like to recommend you to post this thread to Outlook for Developer forum to see if they have any good ideas.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

    Regards,

    Perry
