SharePoint site columns and Word Quick Parts RRS feed

  • Question

  • I would like to add my site columns to a MS Word document using quick parts but the site columns do not appear in the list of available quick parts.  I have setup a custom Content Type based on the Document Content Type and have added it to my document library.  Can someone tell me what is preventing the site columns from appearing in the Quick Parts Document Property list?  Thanks.  Carolin

  • Hi Carolin,

Based on your description, I have the following testing:

    1. Create a site column using Single line of text type

    2. Create a custom Document content type based on Document content type

    3. Add the site column that I created in step1 into the custom content type

    4. Create a new library, and add the custom content type into the library

    5. Create a word file based on the custom content type, then open and edit the document using Word 2013 client application.

    6. The site column was showed in Quick Parts->Document Property, and I could add the field into the word.

So, I could not reproduce this issue in my testing.

For your issue, what type did you use for your site column?  Please make sure the content type of the word file is the custom content type that you created.

    Thanks,

    Wendy

  • Hello Wendy,

Thanks for responding. I was able to get it to display in the document properties but only after I did a Save As, then selected the Content Type, then when I reopened the template it was there. Strange but it's working now.

    Thanks again,

    Carolin
