Outlook 2010: What is the character limit for a link to open?

Question
-
I work for an email marketing company and there is a link that got generated that was 1,218 characters long. When you try to select the link in Outlook nothing happens; however, the link opens fine in OWA, Gmail, Hotmail, and Yahoo.
I looked through my event logs (Windows 7) and didn't find any errors for the application.
This sounds like a bug to me. But I would like to know what the limit is for Outlook (all versions if possible) so I can work with our engineering team to limit the characters with out links until Microsoft is able to generate a hotfix/patch for this.
Thanks,
Matt

Hi,
Based on my research, here’s the result of my compute:
Outlook 2013 – Seems no limitation.
Outlook 2010 – 1033 characters
Outlook 2007 – 1033 characters
Outlook 2003 – 256 characters

Hi,
Based on my research, Outlook 2010 hyperlink character limit is 1023, any link longer than 1023 characters simply won’t open unless you copy and paste it yourself.
And after I searched a lot of articles, it seems to be no other options to change the limit.

Hi Jaynet,
Thank you for your research. I tested the counts and I was able to get it to work all the way up to 1,033. At least with my Outlook it stopped working at 1,034. I am going to ask some other people to try to see if they yield the same results.
If anyone with other versions of Outlook out there would like to help, please test this as well and post your results.
Outlook:
2013 - ????
2010 - links may not exceed 1,033 characters and still function when clicked
2007 - ????
2003 - ????
Thanks,
Matt
