Excahnge 2010 SP3 RU29 Install Error RRS feed

  • Question

  • Based on the logs I think missing some of the installer files from previous updates, however even after re-downloading the updates, and renaming them to match still the errors persist. Yes, the log truncates abnormally.. that's not a paste error.

  • Hi

Yes you are missing a patch.

After you renamed it, did you put the file in the %systemroot%\installer folder?

What version are you upgrading from?

Hope this helps. Please remember to click “Mark as Answer” on the post that helps you, and to click “Unmark as Answer” if a marked post does not actually answer your question. This can be beneficial to other community members reading the thread.

  • Just took over this environment that appears to have been overlooked or neglected for a while

    Current 2010 SP3 RU12 attempting to update to RU29

I had downloaded the Update Rollups 10 and 12 (both were mentioned in the logs, and placed them on the desktop after looking at the line "MSI (c) (2C:0C) [09:05:29:814]: SOURCEMGMT: Resolved source to: 'C:\Users\administrator.DOMAIN\Desktop\Exchange2010-KB3049853-x64-enRollup10.msp'" in the logs..

even placed two copies of the RU10 MSP file, including one with the non-standard "Exchange2010-KB3049853-x64-enRollup10.msp" name on the desktop.   Still no change...is seems to resolve the missing C:\Windows\Installer\18b32e07.msp to the original source of Exchange2010-KB3096066-x64-EN.MSP  (Which is RU12)

current list of files in Desktop and Downloads.

  • Hi,

I want to confirm with you:

    1. How do you install this update patch?

    2. What is the Exchange setup log(C:\ExchangeSetupLogs\ExchangeSetup.log) said? The log that you provided seems not like Exchange setup log.

    3. Does Exchange server could run normally now?

Try to run CMD with administrator privileges, then install this update patch from it.

    Regards,

    Kyle Xu

  • Download patch from MS

    1. Run file get Error 2771

1(alternate). from elevated powershell run .msp file with command line switches /lxv to output verbose logging information to a file (log pasted above)

    2. ExchangeSetup.log is unchanged since 2015 no new entries

    3. Exchange is running fine.  However the newer updates that disable deprecated TLS and HTTPS ciphers are requested because we're starting to see issues getting ActiveSync devices to be set up without warnings.

I know I just need to download the right msp file and put it in the right place (or re-run it), but I'm struggling to figure out what and where this file(s) go.

  • Hi DatawareDave,

I find a related blog: Exchange 2010 SP3 RU16 update fails with error code 2771

However, Exchange 2010 RU 10 and some other patch aren't supported download now.

    ===

By the way, in my lab, I could update from RU 11 to RU 29 successfully:

So, If you still cannot update to RU 29 successfully, you can try to add a new Exchange server in your organization, then migrate mailboxes to it.

    Regards,

    Kyle Xu

  • RU10 for Exchange 2010 SP3 is most certainly still available for download.

    https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=47676

I Started the install of RU12 over the top, and it appears to want to go.  Of course I'm outside my maintenance window at the moment, but will run that patch this evening, and then re-attempt RU29 and report back so that anyone else struggling with a legacy environment can hopefully find some assistance.

  • Do you try to update your Exchange serve to other RU? Such as RU 14? Personally, I think the most quickly way is deploy an additional server, then migrate mailboxes from this old one to it.
