Sending/receiving XLSM/XLSX files as email attachments in Outlook RRS feed

  • In our company, we have many versions of Office throughout. 2003 to 2016. Uo until a week ago, we had no issues sending/receiving ANY Office documents. Suddenly, some emails with .xlsm attachments stopped going through. The we discovered some other Excel sheets (xls or xlsx) were sometimes going through, sometimes not. After much testing, here's what I found :

    If i emailed myself with an .xlsm file attachment and quickly shut down Outlook, it DID make it to our email server. However, when I started Outlook back up, the file never came down. Upon going back to the email server, I discovered it was GONE.  The entire message. I have my email set to leave my email on the server for 5 days before removing it. My other emails were there, but the one with the .xlsm attachment was gone. Checked spam filters. Checked junk mail folders. Nada.

    It seems that if you re-save the file in Excel as an /xlsx file, it goes through. Interesting my Outlook changes it to a READ ONLY file. 

    Any ideas on what might be happening here?
