  • This is a known issue with RemoteApp under Windows Server 2008. Is it possible for you to make a test with Windows Server 2008 R2 RDS as some of the dialog box Z order issues have been fixed there?

  • Just a note on KB983533 - you'll need to install the hotfix on both the client PC and server. From the KB: "To resolve this issue, install this hotfix on both the server and on the clients."

Now, I've tried this KB to fix our similar issue, but it didn't help.

  • Has anyone found a solution to this issue yet?  We are experiencing the same problem with a published RemoteApp on our 2008 Enterprise R2 servers and have not found a fix for this problem.

I have tried the same hotfix from KB 983533 and received the same message "The update does not apply to your system".  I've also read many other threads that just end with no resolution after having applied the hotfix and having the same problems.

Can someone from Microsoft help with this?  We are scheduled to deploy this in less than two weeks at our new data center location.

I am hoping someone can help as I am under pressure to get this working soon as we have a LOT of money invested in new blade servers and Microsoft licensing for 2008 Enterprise on each server as well as 100's of Windows and RDP CALs.

  • I get this with Word on the TS. When you do a File - Open or File Save the window just blinks the title bar. You have to do a Ctrl-Alt-Del to get the dialog box to come in front of the main window. no resolution yet.

  • OMG we have the same issue.

we've tried switching from XP SP3 to Windows 7 SP1

when we try to install the hotfix mention in this thread we get an error stating that the hotfix is not applicable to our computer.

We're running Server 2008 R2 SP1 so maybe the hotfix isn't included in that release and isn't available for that release.

  • So how long does Microsoft have to "know" about this problem before they get around to fixing it?

Just like everyone else on this thread, we are having this same problem.  RemoteApp server running Windows 2008 R2 with SP1.

The hotfix all of my searching points to give the same answer as anyone else when trying to apply it.  Just says "The update does not apply to your system".

Our customer who this has been rolled out to us getting very annoyed with all the users in the field having this problem.

If anyone has found a fix for this, I would greatly appreciate the information.  Thanks.

  • The hot fix 983533 is listed as being included within Server 2008 R2 SP1.

I'm also having the exact same problem with all of our users experiencing it at one point or the other.  Most of these are running XP SP3 and few are on Win7 SP1.

  • I found this patch for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2682814

It did not fix the application problem 100% but it made it significantly better.

This article has all RDS hotfixes for Windows Server 2008 R2 SP1: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2601888
