Can a picture be loaded directly into a Custom List RRS feed

  • Question

  • I have been loading pictures using a Picture Library. Is there a way to load TIFF files directly into a custom list in SharePoint 2010?

  • You do have the ability to attach a file to a custom list item. However, the only way to see it is to view the list item and then click on the attachment.

Why not create a document library with metadata columns instead of a custom list. Or you might want to look at a picture library if you need a thumbnail.

  • Hi,

If i am able to understand you correctly you want to upload an image to custom list programmatically.

You could add files ( including the tiff files) to custom list as attachments.

To do that you have to open  your  picture file as stream and upload it  to the list as attachement.

The code to do that is easily available on net.

  • If you want to get an image displayed in the custom list's default view (i.e., AllItems.aspx) directly such as what's shown below, you can use "Multiple lines of text" field (use the (enhanced) rich text) in a custom list and pick an image to be displayed.

  • You can use free Sparqube Picture Lite column available on codeplex. It allows you to attach pictures to any types of lists.

  • Hello Mayank,
Yes, you can load pictures into custom list
please follow below steps for the same.

    1. Create Site column at site collection level Name as Image with column type as Image with formatting and constraints for publishing and let the Image column be present under Custom Columns Groups visible under Existing Groups
    2. Go to your custom list -- > list settings --> Under Column heading you will able to link "Add from existing site columns". From there you can select Image column which you created in step 1
    3. Come back to you list after saving all the changes. Try to click on Add new item link .There you should be able to Image column through which you can load image in custom list which will be maintained by list only as an image not as an attachment. That image can also visible on Views too .

Please mark as answer if this works for you so that people with similar issue will be benefited
