chkdsk RRS feed

  • Question

  • I am unable to run chkdsk.. I've tried all the ways that have been suggested from the simple to the not so simple and nothing... chkdsk does not run..

for a time I was using avast and it had a scan that worked through chkdsk and when I deleted avast for another program

I think chkdsk went with it?  How do I get chkdsk back?... is there a way to download it ?..

  • 1. Click the Start globe, then type the three letters cmd into the Search box and press Enter.
    2. Type this command and press Enter:
       chkdsk  c: /F
       chkdsk  c: /R

The first command will check the file system, the second the disk itself.

  • try running sfc /scsnnow from an elevated command prompt.  If that doesn't help, try a system restore to a date where chkdsk was working.
