OST: Outlook settings file build in computers in which Outlook program runs. This file contains a cached copy of the mailbox configured in outlook. It is not portable

  • EDB is the file extension of an Exchange database.  It holds the mailbox content.  There are no native editing tools, though in modern versions of Exchange, you can use New-MailboxExportRequest to export content from a user's mailbox to a client-readable PST.

PST is file containing mailbox content and is generated by an Outlook client.  PSTs are the default storage location for email accounts that are using POP3 or IMAP connections and configured in Outlook.  It is also a storage location for archiving from one mail account (Exchange, POP3, or IMAP).  A PST is a standalone archive and can be backed up or copied and opened by other users.

OST is the offline storage file for an Outlook profile that is connected to an Exchange server (Exchange on-premises or online).  OSTs are keyed to the user's mailbox guid and are not transferrable between users.
