How to remove folder from search results RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello,

    When I search a keyword, folders from my document library with that keyword in their path will come out first in my search results. I don't want that to happen. Files with that keyword are more important to me.

    I don't know how I should do it, but I would like to either filter out folders from search results, hide them or give them a very very low weights so they never appear in the first page.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks

  •  I can't try it this minute to verify, but can you add something like "IsDocument=1" on the query?  That may filter out any non-document.

  • Yes! IsDocument:1 works! Thanks Paul! I didn't know you could do that.

    I just need a way to do it automatically now, without the need for the user to type it in the query box.

    Thanks again!

  • That is easy to do actually.  Just edit the CoreResultsWebPart on your results page and add the IsDocument=1 to the Fixed Keyword Query property.

    Thanks,

  • What I am noticing is that this is not filtering out the folders.  One issue we thought was contributing to this was that our folders were named firts.last name, so we changed them to first[space]last.  Still getting folders returned in search.

    Our scope is configured as such:

    Folder = http://sitename/dms                    Include

    IsDocument = 1                                        Require

    ContentType = Folder                                Exclude

    My impression was that Isdocument = 1 would return only document with approved extensions (from File Types) and that ContentType = Folder [exclude] would prohibit search from returning folders in the search results.

    Does anyone have any further thoughts on this?

    Thank you for your comments.
