Refinement Webpart not showing up Metadata Values

    Question

  • We have created a search page, where there is a Search Box, Search Navigation, Search Results and Refinement Tab.

The result source has been configured to retrieve values only from a specific document library( in which each file has been tagged with a metadata)

After setting this result source in the Search Results webpart, The search with metadata term is successfully retrieving the file, but in the refinement panel the metadata terms are not getting populated.

For Eg:- If my metadata is "test" and this is tagged to doc "country.docx", while searching for Country the file should populate and in the refiner tab the metadata term "test" should come up. But for us, the file Country.docx is coming up but metadata refiner is not populating anything.

Many articles available online was reffered to, but didnot help us. Can someone please let us know what needs to be done ?

  • Hi,

There are several things you can check to narrow down your issue:

    1. Are you creating this managed metadata column in the library (means that this is not a site column)? If you are, go to CA > Manage service applications > Search Service Application > Search Schema > Managed Properties, and manually create a new managed property.

    2. Make sure the managed property has been mapped to the correct crawled property.

    3. Make sure the managed properties that you want to use as refiners are set to "Refinable" and "Queryable" in the search schema.

    4. Do a FULL crawl of your content source in the search service application.

These actions allow the refinement panel to display the metadata columns and values.

Refer to this article for detailed information: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/search/configure-properties-of-the-refinement-web-part

In addition, perform a Reindex in the Document Library may also help.
