Hybrid configuration RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Have a few questions about the hybrid configuration which I need to see if I got it correctly...

The hybrid configuration wizard will configure the whole on-premises environment to be in a hybrid state together with Exchange online? The configuration will be stored in AD and is not on the particular server the HCW was initiated?

So if we are on Exchange 2010 or Exchange 2013 in a hybrid and want to upgrade to Exchange 2016, we don't have to run the HCW on the new server/servers since it will treat the on-premises organization as hybrid? it actually uses like mail.company.com as the endpoint whether its pointed towards the old Exchange 2010 or the new Exchange 2016?

--Yes. The wizard will create the HybridConfiguration object in your on-premises Active Directory. This Active Directory object stores the hybrid configuration information for the hybrid deployment and is updated by the Hybrid Configuration wizard.

--No, run the HCW is still needed. Because Exchange 2016 architecture is different with Exchange 2010/2013, re-run the HCW will gather new-created on-premises Exchange 2016 server and Active Directory topology configuration data, and update hybrid configuration information again. More details see: Upgrade Hybrid Server to Exchange 2016.
