External Content Types/Lists RRS feed

  • Question

  • Good morning,

We are experiencing an interesting issue with our External Content Types/Lists in 2013 and I was curious if any others had experienced it.

There are a couple of External Content Types that were defined over a year ago and were working with no issues up until last week.  Now the connections will periodically stop functioning with an error of: Unable to render the data and a correlation ID.  Researching the ULS shows an error of: "The shim execution failed unexpectedly - Could not load file or assembly 'System.Data.OracleClient.dll' or one of its dependencies. Access is denied"

Information on the Secure Store and External Content types:

    Target Application:

    Type:Group

    Windows user name

    Windows Password

    External Content type:

    Database Access Provider: SQL Server

    Authentication Mode: Impersonate Custom Identity

Secure Store App ID: As per definition in Secure Store

    Connection Pooling checked

If I redefined the read list and read item actions and then restart services it appears to be ok for a while, but then it will cease to function.

  • Hi Alex Pechler,

Did you use Oracle database as external list data source?

To troubleshoot the issue, check things below:

    1. Check if the password of the service account has expired.

    2. Re-create a new external content type based on the data source.
