How to recover deleted SharePoint Web App in SP2013 RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

I have deleted my whole web app from my SP site http://servername:80 (deleted @ site settings --> Site action --> delete this site.), Now when I open http://servername:80 shows Page not found, 404 error. I don't have any backup of that site. Now temporarily I  have created a new web app http://servername:8080 and done my project works and all my users using this new web app. Now I want to restore the 8080 content in 80 web app. How to restore the content in to http://servername:80?

Can I recreate the web app http://servername:80 (delete that  web app and create new web app as a same name) and restore the 8080 content using stsadm -o restore?

or any other possibilities without this?

  • Can you clarify whether, when you deleted the web app, you selected to delete the content as well. It's a check box that shows up in the confirmation dialog that pops up.

If you selected to delete the content and you don't have backups you may be out of luck.

If you did not select to delete the content, the content databases should still be on your sql server. You would just need to reattach them to your SharePoint farm using the Mount-SPContentDatabase PowerShell Command

  • Hi,

I have deleted my web app(http://server:80), when I delete it shows up the confirmation dialog in pops up. Now I have created new web app (http://server:8020) and done some web part works. That new web app http://server:8020 contains, some items contains in my web app's  (http://server:8020) site content --> pages.

Now I have backup the the web app (http://server:8020) using stsadm -o backup command and restore it in to http://server:80 web app. I got the below issue.

    1. web app's  (http://server:80) site content --> pages shows 1 items found. When I click the pages, Inside nothing item is displaying.

    2. My web part also shows empty.

Please find the attachment How to get that item back? I have login and checked with another user who is having permission to access the web app http://server:80, for that user also having same issue. Please try to solve this problem....

  • Was a solution found for this issue?

I have a similar issue where I dropped the SharePoint Web app and IIS app pools but not the database.

  • If you already have database backed up then you can create a New Web Application with some Database and dismount the newly created database and mount the backed up database to the web application. In that way you can get the deleted web application. below article for Dismount & Mount:
