  • Question

  • Hello,
I have a problem with Office Web Apps for Lync 2013 (WAC) installed on Windows Server 2012.
I get the error in the screenshot below while testing the URL: https://svwac01.contoso.local/m/Presenter.aspx?a=0&e=true&.

On WAC Server this error appears on Event Viewer:

WAC Server was configured by including .NET Framework 3.5 on PowerShell installation command, otherwise I get assembly Microsoft.Build.Utilities, Version=2.0.0.0 loading failure.

The URL https://svwac01.contoso.local/hosting/discovery/ returns XML file content so WAC Service itselfs seems to work fine.

I tried to repair, and also reinstall the WAC Server, but the error is always the same.

    Thank you,
    Luca

  • Hello Holger,
    yes, I already checked:

    • WAC is accessible without any warning
    • PowerShell command returns:

Success Restart Needed Exit Code      Feature Result
      ------- -------------- ---------      --------------
      True    No             NoChangeNeeded {}

...so all requirements are already installed.

  • The testing URL seems not right.

    Please check it here.

  • Hello Lisa,
the URLs of your link return same "Server Error"; the URL https://svwac01.contoso.local/hosting/discovery/ returns XML file content so WAC Service works fine.

"Testing URL" I was speaking about is the Office Web Apps Server internal presenter page: https://svwac01.contoso.local/m/Presenter.aspx?a=0&e=true& discovered by Lync 2013 Fron End Server (see
Evend ID: 41034 | Source: LS Data MCU).
From browser this URL returns the error of the screenshot: maybe this is a normal behavior (????) because Office Web Apps for Lync 2013 itself works fine (PowerPoint presentations have no issue).

However I'd like to know why:

    1. On TechNet Library => Deploy Office Web Apps Server (Prepare servers to run Office Web Apps Server), Framework .NET 3.5 was missed as requirement for Windows Server 2012. Without it installed WAC doesn't work properly (as you can read on various Internet Forums): I get the error "Server Error in '/m' Application". This because web.config points to assembly="Microsoft.Build.Utilities, Version=2.0.0.0" and assembly="Microsoft.Build.Framework, Version=2.0.0.0"
    2. Why PowerShell Commandlet Get-OfficeWebAppsMachine returns HealthStatus = Unhealthy although WAC for Lync 2013 is working fine (PowerPoint presentations have no issue).

    Thank you,
    Luca

  • I had the same problem, just re-run the front-end deployment wizard "update lync components" include the first and second steps, it will work properly.

  • Hello paul,
I have no problem sharing PowerPoint presentations through Lync 2013: it works fine, however I get Server Error posted above.

I wrote to this post in hopes of getting an answer to these questions:

    1. I'd like to know if Server Error it's a normal behavior
    3. Why PowerShell Commandlet Get-OfficeWebAppsMachine returns HealthStatus = Unhealthy although WAC for Lync 2013 is working fine (PowerPoint presentations have no issue).

    That's all.

    Bye,
    Luca

  • Hello Holger,
yours are same prerequisites listed on TechNet Library => Deploy Office Web Apps Server (Prepare servers to run Office Web Apps Server)however it doesn't seem to be enough; if you don't add .NET Framework 3.5 (Add-WindowsFeature NET-Framework-Features, NET-Framework-Core), WAC Server doesn't work fine because it refers to Microsoft.Build.Framework (version=2.0) inside web.config.

That said, on your first answer you included also .NET Framework 3.5 on PowerShell command: NET-Framework-Features, NET-Framework-Core; but also NET-HTTP-Activation, NET-Non-HTTP-Activ and NET-WCF-HTTP-Activation45 that I didn't included on my WAC Server.
Are latest three features essential ? At the end Lync 2013 + WAC Server are working fine: I don't have any issue with PowerPoint presentations.

Plus, I'd like to get an answer to questions posted above.

    Bye,
    Luca

  • I have not test if I Need the latest three NET-HTTP-Activation, NET-Non-HTTP-Activ and NET-WCF-HTTP-Activation45 Features at the moment. But I allways install this Features and have no Problems with the wac Installation. It run on all my implementation with the first installation.

The get-officwebappsmachine should show healthy. I have not found any documentation what unhealthy mean, because Lync works with this Status. On my customer Installation I see allways healthy.
