    Hello,

    On an item update, is it possible to push the update directly to the search index?  (I don't want to wait for search to crawl the update.  The changes should be immediate.)

    No, there is not. And there won't be. It was only available for FAST for SP2010. It's a shame, this would be an awesome feature.

    There is currently no plan to open up the REST based Indexing API (supporting hybrid in the cloud service) in short term. The product team would re-visit this option when the roadmap becomes more clear.
