changing default file attachment behavior in Outlook 2016? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Can you change the default file attachment behavior in Outlook 2016 / O365 pro plus?
    - By default, if you choose to attach a file and select a file on SharePoint / OneDrive site then a link to the file is attached and the recipient of the email is granted Edit access to the file. Is it possible to have Outlook just attach a copy of the file by default, like it used to in previous versions? (I know you can right click on the link and choose Attach as Copy instead, however my client is concerned users will be sharing Edit permissions to files unintentionally due to the default behavior). Thanks!

  • Hi,

It's not feasible to make "attach as a copy" the default attach option when inserting cloud attachments. However, it sounds a good idea to Outlook 2016. I'd recommend you submit a feedback to Microsoft via File > Feedback > Outlook 2016 Feedback. Microsoft values all customer feedback and the production team will consider whether to add the feature according to customer needs.

Thank you for your understanding and support.
