Sharepoint Server Search - Error Stopping RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hi,

Has someone else had the experience of finding their sharepoint server search process in an Error Stopping state?

Due to foolishness and trying to work out why my endpoints kept dropping from the other servers, I managed to try and stop-spserviceinstance <default search server>, which failed in powershell, yet now CA has this 'error stopping' condition.

Have tried MS fix#1 (reboot) to no effect.

Tried to start the spserviceinstance, though its not possible as it is already started. Have restarted the timer services in services.msc.

Is it a rebuild of the search service?

    Thanks.

  • Hi,

According to your description, you can run the following command to fix the issue:

    $ss1 = get-spenterprisesearchserviceinstance -local

    Stop-spenterprisesearchserviceinstance $ss1

    Start-spenterprisesearchserviceinstance $ss1

    Or use the following steps:

Create a new database with the name WSS_SEARCH ; then restore data from old backup of the required wss database.

    Stop spsearch4 using Services.msc

Then stop "SharePoint Foundation Search" service from "Manage Services on Server" page

    Later start "SharePoint Foundation Search".

    Thanks,

    Rock Wang
