Risks on changing the Primary SMtp Address but Still the old UPN Exists RRS feed

  • Hi,

    What all are risks after changing only the Primary SMTP Address(UPN will exists the same)?

    Does it impacts on the share point or any other apps access?

  • SMTP changing is impacted to the email flow only.

    You have to check and verify common mail flows of shared/room/device mailboxes.

  • As long as you keep the old Primary SMTP address as secondary, no risks.

    Like Udara and Vasil said, The Primary SMTP Address is used for emails transmission. It's allowed that UPN differs from the Primary SMTP Address, although we recommend the UPN to match the primary SMTP address, which makes easy for management.

     

    Please keep the old primary SMTP Address as a proxy address, email messages sent to the proxy address will be delivered to the new primary SMTP Address.
