Should the RC update be able to patch the IT Preview? RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hey People,

just tried to update my IT Preview version of SP2016 (16.0.4316.1217) with the new Release Candidate patch, but it complains that it can't find a version of SP to update!

I read that the RC patch will update Beta 2 (16.0.4266.1001), but surely it should be able to patch the IT Preview too?

Or am I going to have to start again with B2?

    Thanks
    Craig

  • That's not true at all. IT Preview was released on Aug 24th, Beta 2 on Nov 16th. The build numbers are deceptive. Needless to say, Beta 2, at a 'lower' build number, is a newer build than IT Preview.

  • Thanks for the quick response Trevor.

But seriously?  MS's wonderful new SP patching system can't patch the most current release?

Oh well, back to B2 then I guess...

    A. Yes. Release Candidate is an update to SharePoint Server 2016 Beta 2 and can be installed over Beta 2."

  • Oh, I just noticed you're reffering to Beta 1. Never mind then.

  • Actually, the IT Tech Preview came out after B2.

    B2 is 16.0.4266.1001

    IT TP is 16.0.4316.1217

I've yet to see anyone post the build number for the RC

  • For the record, here are the build numbers for the SharePoint Server 2016 public releases so far...

    • IT Preview: 16.0.4316.1217 (24-Aug-2015)
    • Beta 2: 16.0.4306.1002 (18-Nov-2015)
    • Release Candidate: 16.0.4336.1000 (20-Jan-2016)

I'm not familiar with any SharePoint release that used 16.0.4266.1001 as the build number.  Could you be thinking of another product, perhaps?

  • Thanks Troy,

4266 is what you get when the only online information for SP2016 build numbers is this:
