Visio 2013 Standard missing stencils and shapes RRS feed

  • Question

  • I just downloaded Vision 2013 Standard on my Surface Pro 3. Added to Office 365.

I select the Electricaland Telcom Plan or the Rack Diagram but when I open them there are no stencils or shapes loaded and no access to add them (just some typical shapes for a server or modem, etc.). Why don't they load a good set of stencils relevant to the drawing type (e.g., if a rack diagram then stencils for routers, switches, servers, and other rack mounted devices)? Visio is expensive ($250+ US dollars), where is the ruck functionality?

  • [Forum FAQ] Visio Standard 2013, Visio Professional 2013 template list and common uses

Please see post nr 2 under Floor Plans and Network.

I've used Visio in the past a lot of times but don't bother with it now. For one reason the bean counters seem to run the show rather than having the information for the capabilities of the freekin junk provided easily for anybody wanting to purchase this POS.

If they had that info available I wouldn't have had to search to find it just to answer a question that should be answered when you select a link via Microsoft to the rev you want to purchase. It's more like they just want to sell, sell, sell without giving a dang about whether the purchaser can even understand what they are getting. Idiots.

Who knows. Maybe you can find something on the net Tripplite - Visio Stencils for Data Center Planning

  • I'm resurrecting this thread simply because I purchased this software (vlsc visio 2016, 13, 10 std) for 3 of us in I.T. to document systems, and find that most of the stencils are missing even though the diagram type shows as available in the menu, and I have to grab 3rd party stencils to do something simple like a rack diagram. You even make me reload my 3rd party stencils every time I want to use them.

Nowhere in the purchasing page for this item does it clearly state what you do get vs what you don' have to dig for it or scour forums such as these. I don't understand why visio STANDARD costs almost as much as Microsoft office business.

I can honestly see why people forego Microsoft products OR find ways to "get them for free". You're telling me I have to spend over $800 per license (vs $300ish for std) to get Microsoft's lame kindergarten themed rack diagram stencils? I can go to manufacturer sites and get photo-realistic stencils for free!

Gtfo of here M$....Thanks for nothing.
