More than 2 MB attachment is not coming from out side

    Question

  • I am using exchange server 2010. I am not getting more than 2 MB attachment from out side. Internally it is working fine but externally it is not working. I have allowed 10 MB mail size on receive connector. I think 10 MB is default size.
I have spoken with logix team for the same, they are saying message is reaching to exchange server. General mail flow is working fine but if you attach 5 MB attachment. then it is not coming in side my organization,

  • Hi,

Have you check with your ISP or the mail gateway and see if there is a limit restriction?

  • Hi

Test an email from the sender domain to your domain and read the headers. find out the exact path email takes to travel.

I am assuming there has to be a receive connector that is receiving emails from your email gateway. Check the limits on that connector

  • I'm guessing the IP 14.140.205.172 is your Exchange Server?

How about remove the restriction on TransportConfig and test it out. If that doesn't work then try again with receive connector.

  • Hi miya,

By default in Exchange, the size of the message can change because of content conversion, encoding, and agent processing, the message size generally increases by about 30%. As a result, a message of 9 MB may fail to deliver to a server with size limit 10 MB.

So, I agree with Michael. You can increase the limit size one by one(Transprot Config/Receiver Connector/User Mailbox) as a test and check if any helps.

Details see: Understanding Message Size Limits
