WCF Conversion for SharePoint Online RRS feed

  • Question

  • The WCF web service is deployed under _vti_bin folder of On-Premise SharePoint 2013 Server. This service is fetching one of the list item details from the SharePoint  List. This service needs to be deployed to a different location since SharePoint Online does not support deploying the web service to   _vti_bin.

The WCF uses Server Side Object Model. If we convert the WCF with CSOM and update the authentication, depoly the WCF either OnPremise or Cloud (Azure) does this work for SharePoint Online ?

Also do we need to a have a ssl certificate for the WCF URL, if the web service is hosted locally on-premise data center

  • Hi ghsajith,

In SharePoint online, it does not support to deploy the WCF web service.

You could host your WCF web service in Azure. Then use Client-Side Object model to query information from SharePoint.

And you also could use JQuery to consume the WCF web service. For more detailed information, refer to the article below.

  • what are the different options of hosting WCF web service in Azure.

Any other option other than Infrastucture as a service  (Iaas) ?

  • Hi ghsajith,

I am afraid that there is no other option other than Infrastructure as a service.
