Migration of large mail archives (larger than 100GB) to Exchange Online RRS feed

  • Question

  • Hello everyone,

we are currently facing a small (or rather a big) challenge when migrating to Exchange Online:

We are currently migrating mailboxes and archives to Exchange Online. The mailboxes are doing fine, but there are some problems with the archives, especially those over 100GB. During the migration, the archive runs full and is not extended automatically. The quota is still at 110GB after activating AutoExpandingArchiveEnabled and the migration stops at 110GB level as well.

According to information from Microsoft, the automatic expansion of the archive can take up to 30 days. This is bad, because we cannot and do not want to wait 30 days until the archive is ready (especially since this is not the only archive). Is there another way or has anyone ever faced the same problem and got a tip?

I am very grateful for any help!

Have you opened a ticket with Microsoft and asked about alternatives?

  • Hi,

What about referring to the below link:

How to Migrate Archive Mailboxes Over 100GB to Exchange Online

Please Note: Since the web site is not hosted by Microsoft, the link may change without notice. Microsoft does not guarantee the accuracy of this information.

Microsoft Support does not have the ability to increase the quota past 130GB. In order to get a quota increase past this, Microsoft Support will need to request the quota increase on your behalf with Microsoft engineering.

Prepare a report of all mailboxes over 90GB connected to on-premises Exchange, request a quota increase and supply the report generated above for Microsoft engineering via Support to analyze.

Or use other options mentioned in the link.

    Regards,

  • Hi,

unfortunaly this not help us, I found the blog article before.

Our problem is, that we are migrating archives from a 3rd party mail system directly into the Exchange Online archives (not via the mailbox). The problem is, that we cannot prepare the archives a few days before we start the migration.

I think the only way for us is raising up a support ticket and look, what Microsoft is telling us....

    Thank you for your help!
